What is Imagine Cup ?

Imagine Cup is a global competition that empowers the next generation of computer science students to team up and use their creativity, passion and knowledge of technology to create applications that shape how we live, work and play. Every year tens of thousands of students from across the globe compete for cash, travel and prizes and for the honor of taking home the Imagine Cup! – Microsoft

Microsoft of has organized this event for the past 16 years since 2003 and with the technology moving towards the cloud the competition has adapted to the technology too.

What does it take to participate in the Imagine Cup?

Simply visit https://imagine.microsoft.com/en-us login to your imagine account provided by the school or university.(Make sure the account is verified) If your account is verified it should like the below,

CaptureOnce your account is good , find 3 individuals and form a team. The team could consists of students from various disciplines and various level of education. (Make sure all your team member login and verify their account status) Remember the team can consists only up to 3 members and no more. From there head to https://imagine.microsoft.com/en-us/account/Manage page to create a team.

Capture2Create a team and invite your friends by using their verified email addresses. (The verification is important because you and university will be recognized by it and the tools provided will be activated once the account is verified)

Capture3The above is provided for your ease and will only be provided for verified accounts. Another must for this year imagine cup is an azure component. This is a qualifying criteria to note therefore is best to include one. For more about the Official rules and guidelines visit this link. For all of us participating in the imagine cup from Sri Lanka our deadline are on 5th march 2018 it is recommended to submit the required documents before hand.

Prizes

The 2018 competition changes are designed to inspire students to use their imaginations and passion to create technology solutions built with Azure.

The following prizes will be given at World Finals:

  • First Place: $100,000 USD, Azure Grant
  • Second Place: $25,000 USD, Azure Grant
  • Imagine Cup Awards: $15,000 each for Artificial Intelligence, Big Data & Mixed Reality

The first-place team also wins a 1:1 mentoring session with Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella.
